Hotel Himgiri in Manali is a great hotel at a very reasonable price. The only bad thing about it is its location. Read more to find the details....
I went to Manali with my spouse and kid in the first week of June 2014. We had made the plan at the last moment and hence were not able to find availability in the hotels of our choice. After a lot of web browsing and phone calls to several hotels, we got the booking in Hotel Himgiri. The reviews of the hotel were very confusing. Some said it was too good and some disagreed as it happens with the review of anything else. The pictures posted on the website were quite good but traveler's pictures were not satisfactory. Finally, we went ahead without any expectations to face it as it is.
While we headed to the hotel after reaching Manali, we were very disappointed with its location. It was at a five minutes walking distance from the Mall Road but was at a terrible place. There was a car workshop next to the hotel and the crowd was not very good. There is no view of Manali from the hotel. It looks like you are living in any other crowded city.

When we entered the hotel, we found the reception was nice with comfortable sitting and nice interiors. I hoped the rooms were as good as the reception.

We got the super deluxe room 205 on the second floor looking at which I was more than happy. It was a nice and comfortable room with a double bed, a set of chairs and a coffee table. It also had a dressing mirror, an LCD and a cupboard. They had an extra blanket in the cupboard. The room was clean and so were the sheets and everything else.

The bathroom was quite nice too. It was spacious and very clean. It had all the required toiletries and clean towels.
We were served welcome drinks on our arrival which was an orange drink at room temperature. Nothing to rave about it. The room service was very quick though. We ordered meals and beverages a few times and they were served quickly and nicely.
There was a "Please Clean my Room" tag in the room. Your room was cleaned only when you put it on your door in the morning. The toiletries were not replenished when the room was cleaned. The towels were replaced with fresh ones though.
We had breakfast and dinner included in our package which was a buffet with limited but nice options. The dining hall was an ordinary hall with comfortable sitting arrangements. The breakfast had tea, coffee, bread-jam, bread-butter and corn flakes as fixed options for all days. Apart from this there used to be two other options like stuffed paratha (bread), porridge, chole bhature (chick peas curry and deep fried breads) etc which used to vary everyday. The food was actually very nice and was served hot.
The dinner was even better. We had soup, 3 vegetarian curries, 1 non-vegetarian curry, rice, breads, salads and desserts to choose from. All the dishes starting from the soup to the dessert were up to our expectations. The hospitality of the hotel was also very good. The staff was cordial and helpful.
Overall it was a great hotel at its price. Tourists who wish to visit Mall road multiple times can go for it without hesitation as is it quite close it. People looking for a hotel with a great view may give it a skip.
